Mark Willott is an Emmy-winning composer whose distinctive musical voice has become synonymous with some of the world’s biggest sports broadcasts. Hailing from the Midlands in the UK, Mark’s career began in the world of video games, scoring the gritty, cult-favourite title Cold Winter. But it wasn’t long before his talents were discovered on the other side of the Atlantic.
In the early 2000s, Mark Willott began a lasting creative partnership with TNT Sports in the United States — a relationship that has now spanned nearly two decades. His work for the network has earned him three Emmy nominations and a prestigious win in 2007 for Outstanding Achievement in Composition and Music Direction.
A prolific composer for broadcast sport, Mark Willott has written signature themes for the NHL, MLB, College Football, and the NBA. His original theme for Major League Baseball first hit American airwaves in 2007, becoming an instant classic. So beloved was the piece that, 15 years later, Mark was invited to revisit and re-record it with a live orchestra — an event that cemented its place as one of the most iconic sports themes in the U.S.
Mark Willott’s influence stretches beyond America. In 2017, he spearheaded the musical rebranding of Fox Sports in Australia, collaborating with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to create the anthemic theme for Fox Footy. That score, now regarded as a modern classic in Australian television, was reimagined this year by the hard-hitting rock band Parkway Drive, giving the piece a new lease of life and a whole new audience.
Outside the stadium, Mark has composed for numerous feature films, including the internationally successful animated series The Snow Queen. And in 2025, he turns yet another creative corner, launching his newest project — a cinematic, genre-bending band called Rising Dogs.
He has already been commissioned to compose the Theme for two major new sports this summer.
Mark is a keen Scuba Diver, Surfer, Horse Rider, Runner and Traveler.
He has just completed a new album for Music For Sport that is titled STADIUM SPORTS.
